I had a client ask me today why the price of his website included 2 designs, one for Firefox/Mozilla users and one for Internet Explorer users. The simple answer is this: if you have a product to sell, and you alienate 30-40% of your users by giving them a site that doesn’t look good in the browser upon their initial visit, you’ve just lost 30-40% of your potential leads. He then agreed that 2 designs were worth the trouble.
I wanted to share an older news article I dug up on the subject as well. It made me laugh back then just as much as it makes me laugh now:
FEMA Aid Site Blocks Access To Firefox, Macs, Linux Users Our government sets laws and standards on how information should be accessible to everyone, and yet they make a site that only lets you file a FEMA claim if you have Internet Explorer on a PC.
