Carnival of the Capitalists

The Carnival of the Capitalists for December 3rd at One Man Band. Of note:

Business Blogging

Blogging, is it worth the time and other insights to online marketing

Susie Kleiner’s comments about the time she spent researching and learning stuck a chord with me, especially in light of this week’s post on Entrepreneurial Time Management and Discipline. Starting something new in your business does involve a very steep learning curve in the beginning, and it is often hard for entrepreneurs to carve out that kind of time for educating themselves—but this process is an important one for the success of your business so don’t forget to make time for it!

Pricing

The Psychology of Pricing

I’m always amazed that such psychology still works, but it does. I have heard criticism of such pricing schemes as deceitful, but I believe they are only deceitful if you are shilling a crap product. If your goal is to provide a quality product and a good value to your customers, then I see no problem in price manipulation as a way to break through the barrier of purchase reluctance with your clients. This all depends on your product, however—in a service industry like mine, it is easier to ask the client what their reluctance is. When you are selling a product on a shelf in a store or through an infomercial, the price of the product has to stand alone.

Media and Advertising

The Future of Media and Advertising

You’ll just have to read this one to see the value. If you can read it, understand it, and own it, then you’re going to be okay. If not, your business may be in trouble as technology (and consumer behavior) changes.

Truthiness

Faking It Doesn’t Make It

Charles H. Green continues to be one of my favorite CotC contributors week after week. This entry (as with all of his) are just so obvious and yet profound. In this installment, he explains why you should stop pretending to be the good guy and actually be the good guy.

Entrepreneurship

4 Tips For Becoming A More Productive Entrepreneur

With all of these posts, the idea is discipline. You can not be a successful home-based entrepreneur without discipline. Discipline gives you the structure you need to create an effective time management system.

One note: One thing I did NOT like about Yaro’s post is his advertising. He has a sizable ad for the "Reverse Funnel System", which amounts to your basic internet pyramid scam. Perhaps Yaro should start reading Charles H. Green’s blog and realize that building trust with your readership also means not posting ads on your site for "products" (and I use this term lightly) that would hurt your customers. I know that Yaro has other good products and a lot of great content, so I was surprised to see this kind of advertising there.

Editor’s Note

In case anyone is wondering at this point, I started linking to the CotC later on in the week, not the day it was posted, for two reasons:

  1. It spreads out the link karma and increases the traffic, which is just good marketing.
  2. It allows me time to read, comment and reflect on the content of that week’s carnival, which adds more value to the carnival for my readers.

Overall, I think this technique has been working pretty well for the past few weeks and I am going to continue using it for any linked carnivals in the future.

    Nikole,

Thanks for the inclusion of my posting, and the very nice words you had to say (even in the other sections).

And congrats for adding your own point of view to the selections; I find reading “book reviews” adds so much more than just “book reports.” I value having another person’s perspective. So thanks for having and voicing opinions!
