Carnival of the Capitalists
December 18, 2007
This week’s Carnival of the Capitalists (for 12/16/2007) is up at samaBlog. Of note:
Homepreneur Success Story
Today’s Woman Entrepreneur - Alicia Rosam of Ali J
I love hearing about passionate entrepreneurs who come straight out of the gate at a full run. In this interview, the energetic and artistic Alicia Rosam shares how she went from nothing to worldwide brand in a very short amount of time. This is a must-read for all you bootstrappers out there!
The Art of Compromise
Destroying Shareholder Value: One Quarter, One Customer at a Time
Managing business relationships can be a lot like a marriage—you give and take while always keeping the long-term health of that relationship in mind. Charles H. Green proves this yet again in his post about how letting go of $30K could have secured $3M in project fees in the long run.
Honesty in Advertising
Twelve Ways Advertisers Insult Consumers
I had mixed reviews on this article, although I do see it’s point. The problem is that it’s written from the point of view from someone who knows about advertising and can see through the tricks—in reality, the average consumer buys the product because these tricks work, which keeps advertisers coming back to these same psychological maneuvers every time. Personally, I think the worst offender are those checks from my credit card companies. Not only are they a huge waste of paper, but then I need to thoroughly shred them to dispose of them!
Calling it Like it Is
Does it matter whether we call something management or leadership?
Waly Bock has had some hilarious posts in the past due to his blunt honesty. In this one, the humor also has a point: a good manager should be a good leader, so management and leadership really are the same thing when done right.
Editor’s Notes
